I’m hoping my issues get better

My spouse and I give him a biweekly allowance, however he enjoys to go to concerts with his friends and those tickets cost a small fortune… His father and I have given him the money for a few of these shows as birthday presents but, at $100 or more a ticket, it just gets to be too much, and so, our son finds all sorts of odd jobs to do in the city. Mostly he walks pets or feeds cats when their owners are away! Last month, an older couple down the street asked if he wanted to do yard task for them. He said sure, but the job turned out to be quite bit of labor for him! Other than mowing the sod, the yard hadn’t been tended to for months. Lawn clippings, mulch and leaves had built up around their outside a/c unit. My son spent hours clearing them out of the grating around the cooling unit. This was a larger help than anyone realized. The couple’s a/c hadn’t been cooling their house truly well and their electric bill had been higher than usual. Turns out that if the sizzling air pulled from indoors can’t be properly expelled because of something like yard debris, the heated air will remain stuck in your cooling system, causing you trouble… When the air conditioner doesn’t task as efficiently as possible, the air blown into your home will gradually get warmer, making the cooling system task harder to do its job. That meant the couple’s air conditioner ran more and spiked their electric bills. They were so happy with our son’s efforts and their air conditioner legitimately working perfectly again, they gave him a large tip.

I believe this is a necessity

He said yeah, however the work turned out to be quite bit of labor for him, and other than mowing the turf, the yard hadn’t been tended to for months. Lawn clippings, mulch and leaves had built up around their outside air conditioning unit. My kid spent hours clearing them out of the grating around the cooling unit. This was a bigger help than anyone realized. The couple’s air conditioning hadn’t been cooling their cabin really well and their electric bill had been higher than usual. Great A/C technology

I forgot about the service for years

Working on our home

I recently bought a house that I can’t afford without a roommate paying rent. My roommate Matt is not too bad though. He is quite neat and is really handy to have around the house. The only downside is that Matt comes with a really big, hairy dog. Matt’s dog sheds a ton too. There is dog hair all over the rug, couch and my clothing. The dog hair is also in three colors. So no matter what the hair is on, you can see it. I recently figured out that the dog hair is killing my HVAC unit. The hair is all over the house and then the HVAC unit sucks it up. The hair makes the HVAC device run longer hours and almost seem tired. I noticed that my HVAC bills have increased since Matt and his dog have arrived. Just about every other day I need to change the air filter too. The air conditioning filter gets so clogged with dog hair that the HVAC unit can barely run. Even cleaning the air filter that often, the HVAC is still tired of working. I really need to rip it open, remove all the hair and let the HVAC work. I know that the hair will get sucked back up into it within a week though. So really what is the point? I am worried that I will have a premature HVAC breakdown or a large HVAC repair due to the stress the hair is putting on my machine. Could I make Matt pay for that HVAC related issue?

We really do have big time issues

I am 24 years old and I still live with my parents. I don’t lead with this on a first date obviously. Most people seem to think it is weird to be that old and still live in the nest. I think I am smarter than both my siblings and peers around me. Why would I leave my parent’s house unless I needed to? Living with them is totally great since I have no expenses. No rent, food or gas expenses. I can pay my student loans and save the rest of my paycheck. My mother also cooks me food, does my laundry and will always see the new comedy out in theaters. My father handles any car related issues I might have and home issues. The best is that my dad tackles anything wrong with the HVAC equipment. We have a tricky gas fireplace. The heating system frequently will just not turn on. It won’t even let you try to turn it on manually. When that happens, I just call my dad and he comes home. My father then spends all day working on our heating device. He then buys replacement parts, cleans it and does a whole lot of other stuff. All I really know is that I call him, and then I have heating again. If I lived alone that would not happen. I would have to call a HVAC contractor to do this. I would get charged a heating repair. I also would have to babysit the guy during the repair. I like letting my dad handle it way more.

There’s no central air in here

When I have an opportunity, I love to explore other countries and cultures.  My pride and joy is showing people my passport and the many different places that I have been.  One of my friends noticed that most of the places that I have visited have been in very warm climates.  I live in the southern part of my country where we have warm temperatures most of the year. So I am used to hot weather.  However, I’m used to hot weather with a great cooling system. The first time I visited a foreign country, I wanted to experience life as a local, which I didn’t know at the time this meant no central air.  I didn’t reserve a room in a large chain hotel, which most likely would have had a cooling system. Instead, I choose to rent a room in a locally owned bed and breakfast, and didn’t realize that central air would be optional.  The house was close to the beach with a perfect view of the ocean. When I first arrived, I was so impressed with the house and views that I still didn’t ask about a/c. The windows in my room was open when I arrived and the ocean breeze was so refreshing.  However, after returning from the beach after spending a day running, playing and surfing, I wanted to lay down on my bed in a cool air conditioned room. What I had instead was an oscillating fan in front of the window. I tried to be optimistic about not having a/c and asked a local resident how they managed the heat.  The trick I learned from them was cold showers.

An aging HVAC system

23 Aging HVAC with no maintenance
When I was four years old, my parents made the decision to move from the Northeast to the very far south. My dad had found a great job that promised growth and opportunities which weren’t available to him here. The job turned out to be a great fit for him, and they were able to purchase a very affordable home due to flooding in the area driving the prices of surviving homes very far down. However, what my parents were not aware of was that their older model home was hiding a few unsavory surprises. The house was built in 1978, which will old by southern standards was practically new to a couple who had grown up in farm houses built before the Constitution was even drawn up. My parents were also a very young couple, and so it’s sad to say but they got a little more than they bargained for. The aging house also had an aging HVAC system, which my mom and dad were ill-equipped to handle. They had never had central air conditioning before, as most homes in the Northeast only bother with central heating, especially during this time in the early 90’s. This little perfect storm of disaster allowed for a leak in the ductwork to be ignored as a leak in the older roof–it hadn’t been done in seven years, so clearly this had to be the culprit. When they called a roofer and were told there were no problems with the roof, they reconsidered. One weekend afternoon my dad crawled into the attic and what he found was horrifying–wet insulation due to the leaking HVAC, left to grow mold in the blazing hot attic. From then on my parents learned the value of HVAC maintenance.

A stuffed up heat pump

I recently took the plunge and decided to buy a house boat once the lease on my apartment had finally run out. However, while it was perfectly comfortable and fantastic for the summer, in the winter I knew I was bound to run into issues. So the moment the leaves began to turn, I got straight to work getting my new home on the water winter ready. First, I took a week off from any work other than the boat in order to install spray foam insulation. This is keeping the house cooler in summer and warmer in the winter, all while preventing condensation. Then I had to decide on what type of heater I wanted. I’d read about space heater, but they sounded a little dicey. It was recommended I get a mini radiant heater that looks like a fireplace. Although appealing, this didn’t sound like the best idea for me. I’d never heard of a fireplace that could heat a large area comfortably. What I finally settled on after weeks of looking was a marine air heating and cooling thermopump. This unique type of heat pump is able to both heat and cool my new houseboat, without any ductwork or air ducts like a traditional HVAC system. The latest advances in HVAC technology have also made heat pumps more effective and efficient than ever before; they use less wattage than traditional window AC units and space heaters. This means that I’ll save money with this system over buying separate heating and cooling devices. I was even able to find a marine air heat pump with a humidistat, which has put an end to the very last of the condensation on my houseboat.
