Living in the dorms freshman year of college was horrible. I got stuck on the fifth floor & was moderate the whole year. The straight-forward reason is that heat rises & the Heating, Ventilation & A/C was situated on the first floor. In the warm season the a/c would be set quite low. The cooling would be mainly on the first floor & sort of cool the fifth! Us on the fifth floor just had to suffer. All the heat got pushed upwards & it felt appreciate a moderate box. The college windows don’t open more than a crack too. My roommate & I both had to smuggle in portable a/cs for the space. Anytime room checks happened, every one of us hid the cooling units since they were not allowed. The heating was genuinely worse in the Winter season though. The girls on the first floor complained about how frosty they were. The temperature control was then increased & more heating was produced. The heat rose right up the the fifth floor again. It would be around 79 degrees on our floor, 81 on the fifth & the first floor would be appreciate 60 degrees; So still, our roommate & I ran portable a/cs to combat the heat. After a year of being way too hot, I moved out of the dorms. Living in an lake house & being on the same floor as the Heating, Ventilation & A/C is a game changer. I actually can be the right temperature for once. I don’t need our portable AC anymore or have to listen to other people complain about temperature control settings.
