Our little trio just moved into a big, old farmhouse. We are only renting, so we have to be somewhat careful of our surroundings. Our utilities are included, although I am sure that won’t stay that way if the Heating, Ventilation and A/C bills skyrocket. You see, they have a wood burning stove that we are to use before or instead of the formal heating unit. They provide all the wood, so that isn’t really a concern. The owners swear by the heat that it gives off for the entire condo in the winter. But, really, I have never been the type to build a fire at all! I was distraught, . I was struggling those first few weeks. So much, in fact, that when I found the portable heating system in the storage closet, I began using it instead of the fire. I thought I was being sly about this. I didn’t think anyone noticed that I was even using it. Then as we started to enter Spring, the owners came to me and asked how we were doing. I am a terrible liar. I definitely liked this couple, so I wasn’t going to be disrespectful. I immediately told them that I was using the portable heater. She looked at me and grinned, she actually already knew this. She said she could see the heating usage reflected in the bills. She wasn’t upset and apologized for assuming I knew how to start the fire. She said she would help me a lot more when the fall came back around. I was so relieved that she was not upset. They are absolutely some of the best property owners I have had in a long time.
