My roommate Gary and I are going on a month long vacation in Europe. We are planning on traveling all over and seeing at least four different countries. Each week will be a new place that we experience the culture. Leaving a house for a month is tough. Gary and I are both working on making sure the house will be alright when we leave. I have called our garbage service and water delivery to cancel for that month. I also have my parents agreeing to check on the house once a week and to grab our newspaper. Gary right now is trying to figure out what to do with our plumbing. We don’t know what we should do. Gary at first thought completely draining the water from the pipes was a good idea. The hot water tank would have no water, and there would be no standing water in the pipes. This way it would make so when our temperatures drop below zero, no pipes would burst. Also, all the plumbing will not be working. Gary and I won’t come home to a flooded house because of a broken water heater. However, Gary thinks we will want to keep some water in the pipes. He thinks completely draining the water might be a mistake. Our plumbing is super old, and we might be draining us completely out of water. Then we will come home to nothing. He was thinking that once a week my parents could turn on faucets, flush toilets and use the shower. That should suffice for our home.
